Controlled Air Inc, Since 1980
Over 40 years ago, Controlled Air's founders had a vision for the future of building technology. High-performance buildings would be energy efficient and have sophisticated control and systems that would automatically control temperatures, monitor facilities, and even self-diagnose problems.
Today, all this and more is possible, and the professionals at Controlled Air are still on the forefront of technology.

Vin Chiocchio, President Controlled Air/Yanmar Energy Systems North America

Philosophy
We are sponsoring members of the Connecticut Green Building Council, the local chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council, a non-profit 501(c3) organization that seeks to improve the quality of life in Connecticut through the promotion of intelligently designed and constructed high-performance, energy efficient buildings.
We provide all support to get buildings accredited by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System. LEED is a voluntary consensus-based national rating system for developing high-performance, sustainable buildings. LEED addresses all building types and emphasizes state-of-the-art strategies for sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials and resources selection, and indoor environmental quality. Our design teams work with our customers to develop structures that meet LEED qualification requirements from silver to platinum status. Through thoughtful planning, we can work together to make your facility a cleaner, more environmentally friendly place to be.
HISTORY
Generations of Experience And A New Era Of Technology
Controlled Air was founded by Vincent "Vin" Chiocchio in 1980 as a family business, alongside Vincent Chiocchio, Sr. From Day 1, Controlled Air made energy efficiency a top priority, well before anyone else in the industry was talking about it.
Vin invented and implemented many solutions and systems over years, including one of the first ice thermal storage solutions. He is also a master of diagnosing issues. He brought in his brother Mike Chiocchio over 25 years ago to take over the business side. Together they grew Controlled Air into a major HVAC provider with a focus on sustainability.
The average tenure of our employees is 11 years, with many being with us 20 years or more. We are still family-focused, employing husbands and wives, parents and kids, brothers and cousins.
Yanmar, who purchased Controlled Air in 2022, comes from a very similar history and philosophy. Yanmar's founder, Magokichi Yamaoka, saw how small rice farmers were struggling and invented the world's first compact and practical diesel engine engine to help. His goal was and still is to improve energy efficiency, create a sustainable society, and make life better for everyday people. Their business expanded into industrial machinery with the motto, "To conserve fuel is to serve mankind."
Vin now holds the position of President, Energy Systems Division North America. Vincent is a LEED Accredited Professional (AP) and a trained and experienced energy modeler. He was the Connecticut Green Building Council’s Events Coordinator for years, and Controlled Air is still an active member of the Green Building Council. Vincent is dedicated to green technology in the HVAC field.
Vincent says, “We look at every system option, consider efficiency, first time cost, indoor environmental quality, and maintenance. We create innovative HVAC systems that provide a solution to a specific building’s needs, and never accept problems designed into a building.”
A Sustainable Future

Yanmar will fundamentally transform its business by 2050 to an environmentally friendly, greenhouse gas-free company.
CHALLENGE 1: Realize zero GHG emissions from corporate activities
CHALLENGE 2: Realize zero environmental impact from corporate activities by circulating resources
CHALLENGE 3: Contribute to customers' negative GHG emission and resource circulation
